Applications Open: Police Oversight Commission

Mayor Rex Richardson announced that applications to serve on the City’s new Police Oversight Commission are now open. The Commission is a critical new mechanism for accountability in our city, and Mayor Richardson is calling on all interested members of the community to apply.

“Serving on the Police Oversight Commission is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in our community,” said Mayor Richardson. “I encourage all interested Long Beach residents to apply.”

The Commission has broad oversight powers, including the ability to review high-profile incidents, review and provide feedback on recommendations from the Director of Police Oversight, and engage with the public. Members also have the opportunity to bring community concerns before the commission and to the attention of the Police Department directly.

Applications are open and will remain open through December 6th. Note that there is a supplemental questionnaire that must be attached to your application, should you decide to submit one. All materials are available on the application homepage. Commission meetings are expected to begin in March 2024.
