The event will take place at Fairmount Park in Riverside, providing a setting for a resounding celebration of “Beauty and Brains,” encapsulating the essence of health, inner radiance, and intellectual vitality.

In a world where well-being is often intertwined with beauty, the My Hair My Health Festival is dedicated to unveiling the profound synergy between the two. Beyond the surface, this event is designed to empower attendees with knowledge of the potential harms of beauty products, guide them towards discovering healthy alternatives, and cultivate a shared awareness that transcends physical appearances.

The festival’s centerpiece is the “True Cost of Beauty” panel discussion featuring esteemed experts. Dr. Astrid Williams, Manager of the Black Women for Wellness Environmental Justice Program, will illuminate the implications of beauty product toxins on reproductive health and discuss shifting cultural norms favoring Eurocentric beauty standards in Black communities. Dr. Dede Teteh, Assistant Professor of Public Health at Chapman University, will share insights from her community-based research that explores the intersection of beauty products and breast cancer risk. Joining them is Dr. Paula Johnson, Chief of the California Safe Cosmetics Program at California Department of Public Health, whose expertise will guide attendees towards safer personal care choices.

Emphasizing the importance of informed choices, Phyllis Clark, CEO & Founder of Healthy Heritage and a founding member of the My Hair My Health event committee, states, “Knowledge is the cornerstone of empowerment. By gaining insights into the potential health risks associated with beauty products, we empower ourselves to make informed choices that prioritize our well-being.”

Beyond the panel discussion, experience a transformative journey guided by Jessica Bruny of JessBeU, as she leads attendees through a rejuvenating soundbath, fostering mental clarity and a deeper self-connection. Moreover, Shor Denny, Founder and CEO of Community Now, will be available at the Healthy Heritage booth, sponsored by the California Reducing Disparities Project to provide life coaching support, empowering attendees with mental wellness strategies to navigate challenges.
