Terry Washington Remains Undefeated

DMG Boxing recently hosted the HOUSE OF PAIN, a Night of Champions at Soboba Casino where three professional boxing matches had fighters vie for WBF International Titles at three different weight classes.
Titles that were on the line included the Junior Flyweight Division, Super Featherweight and Super Lightweight Division. All three matches were full of action that had the crowd jumping out of their seats.
The WBF International Super Featherweight Championship was one by Michale Bracamontes. The WBF International Super Lightweight, which was the main event was won by David Romero. However, it was the co-main event featuring San Bernardino native Terry Washington that proved to be the crowd favorite once again. It was the fight that most of the fans came to see.
Washington entered the ring with a perfect 3-0 record on the line. None of his fights have ever gone past the first round. His opponent Lito Dante of the Philippines came into the fight with a record of 21-14, and has never been stopped in his 35 fights. Washington, knowing he was stepping into the ring with a more experienced fighter was determined to be the first one to stop him.
Although Dante had more experience than Washington, he didn’t have the skill set that matched Washington. Dante was the first fighter to take Washington past one round. However, Washington was the first fighter to stop Dante before the final bell. For the first time in his professional career, Washington was able to put his skill set on display, and it was truly impressive. His hand speed and power proved to be too much for Dante. His defensive skills, counter punching ability and catlike reflexes allowed him to go untouched for most of the fight. Dante never landed a clean punch. Washington at times was able to land power shots at will. Dante was able to take a punch. He made attempts to press Washington despite the heavy blows he had to endure. However, the fight was stopped in the sixth round because Washington was delivering too much damage. The win improved Washington to 4-0 with four stops. He also earned the WBF International Junior Flyweight Championship. The win puts Washington one step closer to the match against Kyosuke Takami the WBA No. 1 ranked fighter out of Japan with a 9-0 record. Takami fought Dante in 2023 and wasn’t able to stop him. Washington not only stopped Dante, but dominated him for six rounds until the referee decided he had enough.
“Terry did what he was supposed to do. He went in there and handled his business. He made a statement with the way he dominated the fight,” said Ian Franklin, Washington’s mentor. “I think this fight was a springboard for what’s to come. It puts Terry on the fast track to bigger sanctioned fights and a title shot,” added Franklin
A number of people didn’t want Washington to take this fight. Knowing Dante was going to be a tough opponent, some thought the fight wasn’t worth the risk. However, being the skilled and confident fighter that Washington is he and his team had no reservation about taking this fight.
“I’m extremely proud of Terry. He was patient and he maintained his composure throughout the entire fight,” said Franklin. “He took the fight to Lito, but he didn’t force the action. He did exactly what we knew he was capable of,” Franklin continued.
Washington showed the crowd what he was capable of. He showed he can go more than one round. He showed he’s more than just a power puncher. He showed he is a complete boxer with a complete offensive arsenal. He also showed he has great lateral movement on defense to keep his opponents off balance.
“It felt good going into the later rounds in an actual fight. That’s what we prepare for, so the hard work paid off,” said Washington. “We knew this guy was tough, so were ready for a longer night. It was good to give the fans a nice show,” added Washington. “We did what we were supposed to do and finished the fight early,” he continued.
Although Washington trains and spars 8 to 10 during his training sessions he recognized the difference between sparring session and the actual fight.
“My body is a little sore. It didn’t get hit, but it the longer movement and getting him off me works the body. We’ll take a couple of days let my body recover and get back to it and prepare for the next one,” said Washington.
Washington expects to be in the ring again in early August. They expect to be active about every other month. He enjoys the activity and the fight pace.
Before the International WBF Championship fights got underway, DMG Boxing had a number of other professional boxing matches that were featured on the fight card. Those fights too were full of action, packed with heavy punches and knockouts that had the fight fans in the crowd buzzing. The most exciting fight on the undercard featured the Pride of Perris, Charles Jefferson, who represents PTown Boxing. Jefferson had his supporters cheering and roaring with excitement during his brief one round fight. Jefferson faced off with Branden Grant for a scheduled six round fight. Jefferson disposed of Grant at 1:17 in first round with a vicious overhand right that flattened Grant and left him laid out on the canvas. With the knockout, Jefferson improved to 3-0 in his career with three knockouts.
Washington was excited to see that his loyal fan base made the trip out to hemet to support him. “I really appreciate the support. I want to thank all my fans that came out to see me and support me,” concluded Washington.
