At its organizational meeting, the Board of Education of the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) voted to appoint Dr. Scott Wyatt as president of the governing body and Danny Tillman as vice president.

The leadership positions are effective immediately, and Wyatt and Tillman will serve in their new roles for one year.

Dr. Wyatt is a career educator who has worked locally in a variety of roles. He has been an educator for over 20 years. During his career, he has been a teacher, lead teacher, principal and Area Director of Student Services. He has worked in K-12 Alternative Education programs, Juvenile Court School Programs, ROP/CTE programs, Special Education programs, and supervised the Toyota Learning Center at the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Scott serves on numerous committees throughout the county and state. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the San Bernardino Countywide Gangs and Drugs Task Force.

“I am honored to have been selected as the president of the school board,” said Dr. Wyatt, who won re-election in November 2020. “I thank Dr. Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers for her exemplary leadership during these unprecedented times. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve our students, families, and community as president.”

Tillman is a San Bernardino High School graduate and longtime community advocate. He was first elected to the Board in 1995 and has served as both Board president and vice president in the past. Tillman has worked for San Bernardino County for more than 40 years and is currently a departmental information systems administrator for San Bernardino County Human Services. His special interests are technology, budgets, early education, school-to-work programs, and recruitment.

The seven-member Board provides direction for operating the District through actions taken at its meetings. Board members develop the policies by which the educational programs and other business of the District are carried out. Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and can be viewed live on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/SanBdoCitySchools. Meetings are open to the public, except for closed sessions, which the Board is permitted to hold to discuss confidential matters relating to employees, students, or litigation. Actions taken in closed session are reported out to the public.
