Cal State San Bernardino will host a virtual memorial service on Tuesday, June 9, at 9 a.m. to honor the memory of George Floyd, who died on May 25 as the result of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on his neck for almost nine minutes, spurring nationwide protests of police brutality and racism.

Floyd’s tragic death led to demonstrations and protests in more than 75 U.S. cities and communities against brutality and the victimization of the African American community. The ongoing protests have been occurring around the world.

This memorial to the victims of violence is sponsored by CSUSB’s administrative cabinet and the CSUSB Black Faculty, Staff and Student Association (BFSSA), the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) and the Pan-African Center.

Cal State San Bernardino President Tomás D. Morales, BFSSA president and theatre arts professor Kathryn Ervin, and CSUSB student leaders will give remarks and then the memorial will shift to an “open mic” where students and participants will be able to share their thoughts and comments.
