Allied Health Career Day at CHC Nov.17

To spark interest in higher education and showcase career and technical opportunities, Crafton Hills College is holding its third annual Medical and Allied Health Career Day for middle and high school students on Friday, Nov. 17.

This is the second year the event is being geared just for Girl Scouts, and about 200 scouts from across the Inland Empire will attend. The students will split into groups and cycle through several stations, including Nursing and Psychiatric Care, Ground and Air Emergency Transport, Fire and Hazardous Materials, Radiologic Technology and Respiratory Care. They will spend 30 minutes at each stop, and will also have the chance to speak one-on-one with professionals in each field.

“They will learn about the particular discipline, educational requirements, and job opportunities once those educational requirements have been met,” Ann Sandez of the San Manuel Fire Department, part-time faculty at CHC and event coordinator, said. “Each station will also have a small hands-on demonstration to keep all the attendees engaged and allow them to have fun.”

Participating agencies include the San Bernardino County Fire Department, American Medical Response, Mercy Air, Dignity Health, San Manuel Fire Department, and Crafton Hills College Public Safety and Allied Health Programs.

“The Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council are thrilled to again partner in the Allied Health and Medical Careers Day at Crafton Hills College,” says Carrie Raleigh, STEM program manager for GSSG. “This event provides our girls an opportunity to learn about the many career options. The girls that come to the event are part of our Classroom to Career program. These girls attend a variety of site visits throughout the school year to learn about career fields but this day stands out as a highlight due to the many agencies and organizations involved and the broad scope of experiences the girls have during the day.”

Crafton Hills College is located at 11711 Sand Canyon Road, Yucaipa.
