Non-conference play came to an end as the Titans defeated the Lopes (3-7-1) 4-0 at Titan Stadium. Fullerton heads into the Big West with a record of 7-2-2.

Maribell Morales netted her first goal of the season in the 20th minute off the ball from Atlanta Primus.  Morales booted the ball from the top of the box towards the top post.

Samantha Koemans followed shortly after with her fifth goal of the season in the 26th minute via Sarah Fajnor.  Koemans dribbled into the box taking on Lopes defenders and rocked the ball to the back of the net.

Connie Caliz recorded her first goal this season in the 34th minute off a short corner she played to Fajnor.  Fajnor went on to play it back to Caliz to give Fullerton the 3-0 advantage in the first half.  Sunday’s three first-half goals are the most scored for the second time this season.  The first came against Utah Valley on Sept. 10, 2017.

Freshmen Samantha McKenna notched her second goal of the season via the ball from Hailey Pohevitz in the 76th minute.  McKenna’s goal fell into her lap after the ball was saved off the line by a defender and bounced back where McKenna netted the goal to set the Titans atop with a 4-0 lead.

“To turn in a four-goal performance against Grand Canyon is outstanding for us,” said head coach Demian Brown. “We understand the Big West Conference is right around the corner and there is still hard work we need to put into ourselves to prepare for that.”

Fullerton dominated offensively as they recorded 24 shots.  Defensively the Titans put out the same outstanding performance only allowing the Lopes to tally seven shots for the night.

The Titans once again outscored their opponent in corner kicks 9-1.

The Titans just didn’t have it on Saturday evening, as UC Santa Barbara was able to earn a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Fullerton inside the Thunderdome.

For Fullerton (4-11, 0-2 Big West), the loss marks its second straight three-set defeat and fifth consecutive loss overall.

Madeline Schneider and Summer Kerins led the Titans with five kills apiece, while Kerins also recorded a team-best two block assists. Katie Roux led Fullerton defensively with seven digs.

The Titans got off to a slow start, as they weren’t able to execute in the first set. However, Fullerton came back with some fight in the second set, keeping things close throughout, before falling 25-19.

Despite not having their best stuff, the Titans continued to grind until the very end, posting a match-high .118 hitting percentage in the third, but UCSB (3-11, 2-0 Big West) continued to execute. Fullerton eventually fell 25-18 in the third, wrapping up the match sweep for the Gauchos.
