Riverside NAACP Youth Council Hosts Play

Social justice is highlighted Dec. 2nd at 7pm and Dec. 3rd at 3:00 pm in a special theatrical return of The Other Side at the Box Theatre in Riverside. The Box is located at Fox Entertainment Plaza 3635 Market St. in Riverside

The Riverside County NAACP Youth Council and Empower You Edutainment presents a poignant and breathtaking drama by local playwright, Nia Sharron Campbell.

The Other Side follows the interracial friendship of two best friends who are as close and devoted as sisters. When a devastating act of violence in their community directly affects them both, a rift forms in their friendship and racial tensions surge in their town.

“I know a little something about walking in love without being affected by the color of someone’s skin,” says playwright Campbell. “Love needs the room to do what it does and be what it is.”

Dr. Janet Hill, an associate professor of sociology at Norco College and an actor in the show, says the play creates an opportunity for learning to ensue and healing to flourish as the result of traumatic situations. “The Other Side will motivate you to consider how all parties feel when confronted with issues of race, systemic racism, and white supremacy.”

“Our cast is committed to race equity,” adds Campbell, who also appears in the play. “We are trying to expose crucial issues to shed light and awareness about racism and its impact personally and socially.”

Tickets are free, but online reservations (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/462289940657) are required because of limited seating. Donations would be appreciated. The Other Side is sponsored by the City of Riverside.
