San Bernardino native Terry Washington, the current WBF Junior Flyweight Champion will step into the on Saturday, August 9 on a mission to remain undefeated and improve to 5-0, and retain his WBF Junior Flyweight Title.

Washington will be one of the featured attractions at the Night Of Champions III boxing event hosted by DMG Boxing on Saturday, August 9. The boxing event will take place at the Fox Theater located at 301 S. Garey Ave. in Pomona.

Washington will face another experienced fighter in Mel Rodriguez from Venezuela. Rodriguez has record of 10-3 and is known to be a very aggressive fighter. The fight is scheduled for eight rounds, but Washington’s goal is to make it an early night.

“Rodriguez is a very formidable opponent. He’s coming to fight, but we’re ready,” said Ian Franklin, Washington’s mentor and trainer. “We know what we have to do, and we’re prepared for it,” added Franklin.

Washington’s previous fight was scheduled for eight rounds, but he got the job done in six rounds. In his young professional career, not one fighter has been able to go the distance with Washington. He doesn’t expect that to change with this match.

Moving forward, Franklin expects that Washington will face more experienced opponents. He also expects many of the opponents will be from other countries. The No. 1 ranked fighter in the Junior Flyweight Division is from Japan and Franklin is hoping to get a shot at him sooner rather than later.

“It’s hard finding fights for Terry. There’s not too many fighters that are eager to take the risk early in their careers. We anticipate we’ll see opponents from other countries. They will be very good and very experienced fighters, so we won’t be taking anyone lightly,” said Franklin.

In just four fights, Washington has already proven that he is the pride of the Junior Flyweight Division. The goal now is to earn a WBC ranking, move up in the rankings and fight for the title by this time next year. Washington is ready for whatever comes his way. He stays ready.
