At a time when the need for community support is at an all-time high there are’nt enough places where those in need can turn. However, there are still a few local community organizations that are at the ready to answer the call.

The I Am Gifted Foundation recently hosted The Rush 2 Give Back School Event for area youth. With the beginning of the new school just around the corner, the I Am Gifted Foundation got an early start with assisting the youth and their parents so the kids can start the school year strong! Those in attendance received backpacks, school supplies, hygiene products and much more. Local barbers were also on hand providing free haircuts. The I Am Gifted Foundation provided services for 500 students and their parents. The event featured good food, sweet treats and snacks. Other activities included carnival games and prizes, a bounce house and music.

The Rush 2 Give Back School Event which was held at the Home Of Neighborly Service in San Bernardino proved to be a successful and much needed event. Other groups that collaborated to make the event a success include Making Hope Happen, Family And Kids Foundation, San Bernardino Unified School District, the Home of Neighborly Service and Fifth District San Bernardino County Supervisor Joe Baca Jr.

The I AM Gifted Foundation was founded by San Bernardino High alum and current NFL standout Alexander Mattison who is a running back for the Miami Dolphins. Mattison, who was a standout running back at Boise State was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. Last season he suited up with the Las Vegas Raiders, before signing with the Miami Dolphins on March 14.

Mattison founded the I Am Gifted Foundation because of his commitment to the community, his willingness to give back and his advocacy for mental health. In addition to hosting Rush 2 Give Back youth events, the foundation offers a host of other programs. Programs offered include the life skills camp, which provides athletic and life skills for youth. The camp helps develop teamwork skills, resilience and personal growth. A financial literacy program is also offered, and a mental health program is provided as well.
