The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department (Department) is inviting young people to attend the second year of its Summer Kickoff event to learn about internship opportunities for the summer months and more. The event is taking place Friday, June 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network (LBWIN) Youth Career Services Center located at 508 W. Willow St.

“By connecting youth with resources, training programs and pathways to careers, we are investing in the leaders of tomorrow. These efforts reflect our commitment to equipping the next generation of workers with the skills and support needed to thrive,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “With summer quickly approaching, this event is a great opportunity for young people to learn about paid internship programs and resources designed to help set them up for success.”

The free event will feature information booths from approximately 30 participating agencies, including City departments, nonprofits and community organizations, offering a variety of programs and services, including internship and employment opportunities, job training, case management, mental health support and more. The event will also offer engaging activities, creative craft stations, a photo booth, music, food and more. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP online.

“We’re proud to host the second annual Summer Kickoff event at our LBWIN Youth Career Services Center,” said Economic Development Department Director Bo Martinez. “We invite all local young people to come out and join us for an afternoon of connection, engagement and fun, while exploring exciting opportunities available this summer and beyond!”

The LBWIN Youth Career Services Center administers a comprehensive array of internship and employment preparation programs designed to facilitate youth engagement in the workforce and enhance career readiness. These programs span diverse sectors, including public service, aerospace and the criminal justice system. The City recently announced it is seeking business partnerships for its youth work experience programs, as well as the application period for the third cohort of the Long Beach Public Service Corps.

This event aligns with the City’s Summer of Opportunity initiative, a collective impact approach focused on fostering positive development among Long Beach youth while simultaneously addressing youth violence. Highlights of Summer of Opportunity activations and the City’s summer activities calendar are available on the City’s website.

For more information about the Summer Kickoff event, people may contact Isabela Venegas, Youth Program Assistant, at Isabela.Venegas@longbeach.gov or call the LBWIN Youth Career Services Center at 562.570.4700. To learn more about youth employment services, those interested may visit the Department’s website at longbeach.gov/youthservices.
