Long Beach NCNW Hosts 38th Annual Celebration
The Long Beach Section National Council of Negro Women held their 38th Annual Spring Celebration and Awards Program “Women of Excellence-Celebrating HerStory,” on June 8, at the Grand Event Center in Long Beach. Dr. Corliss Bennett president of NCNW Los Angeles Section served as mistress of ceremonies. The event celebrated the National Council of Negro Women and acknowledged the remarkable contributions of Dr. Sharifa Batts, Dr. Nina Richardson, Dr. Autrilla “Sheba” Gillis, Eloise Parker, and LA County District 4 Supervisor Janice Hahn.
These incredible advocates have tirelessly championed the rights and recognition of women.
The Long Beach Section was established in 1966 and has worked continuously at fulfilling the national pledge to make a lasting contribution to all that is finest and best in America. They pledge to cherish and enrich her heritage of freedom and progress by working for the integration of all of her people regardless of race, creed, or national origin into her spiritual, social, cultural and civic life.
NCNW has implemented and supported such programs asthe Precious Lamb Preschools; NAACP ACT-SO; Hudson Elementary School; Long Beach City College Scholarship, and have partnered with the Long Beach Salvation Army annual Clothing Give-Away; and the NCNW Annual Food and Toy drive each December.
